OGAM Tournament in Rome Date: 12/05/2013

The OGAM tournament in Rome was held Saturday November 30th at the Ludica 2013 convention, a large affair involving renactors, kids, wargamers, roleplayers and boardgamers.

The OGAM  tournament was won by long-time Ganesha playtester Diego Chisena, who broke the 2000 victory points wall (scoring 2003 points).

Second came Valerio Gaetani from ASM club in Civitanova Marche. Valerio scored 1387 points.

Third prize was awarded to Massimo Moscarelli, another Ganesha Games regular, and the author of Zen Garden and upcoming Ferrum et Gloria gladiator rules. Massimo, who also took most of the pics in this blog post, scored 979 points.

All winners received a golden die from Ludica 2013 and books from the Myths and Legends series by Osprey publishing. The lowest scoring player received a Ganesha Games paperback as a consolation prize.

Additionally, this was a test of the tournament formula we plan to use from now on. Each table had a scenario. Players were paired so that people from the same club would not fight the first game against each other. Tables were assigned so that players could try as many of the scenarios as possible. The players did not know the specific scenario rules until they sat at the table, so there were a few surprises here and there. This made sure that no specific army was too advantageous, as a missile-heavy band could end up playing a scenario during a thunderstorm.

A few clarifications were issued as on-the-spot rulings so we are sharing them with you. These will appear in the Tournament Rules PDF when we do it.

The Tremble Before My Might ability does NOT work on Undead models.

A model carried by Pegasus MAY contact an opponent in melee while dismounting, even if Pegasus itself did not end his move in contact with said opponent. If you want to play this trick, just stop Pegasus' movement one base away from the opponent and deploy the dismounting Legend so that his base is between Pegasus' base and the opponent's base. This has the double effect of 1) letting the dismounting character attack the opponent with his next activation, and 2) counting Pegasus in the ensuing Fray for purposes of outnumbering modifier calculations.

Attacks performed with the Combat Master trait may be interspersed with movement. For example, a Combat Master with three available actions may perform an attack, move in contact with another target, and then attack again.

Mortals in a Fray may NOT perform Invocations.

In a Reaction, you may not use invocation to summon a dead god back into play because Invocation may not be performed as a Reaction. Invocation is performed INSTEAD OF activating the unit.

The die roll to resist the effects of the Lightning trait is NOT a Combat or Quality roll; therefore, if you roll a 1 you do not trigger the Turn to Stone effect from Medusa.

As a Tournament rule, we decided that no force must test morale if the God is killed in the first or second turn of play.

As a Tournament limitation, we ruled that Odin may choose only one of his Options (either Sleipnir or Gungnir).

Errata: Undead Bersekers cost 22 points, not 25 as printed in the book.

Errata: Theseus costs 60 pts, not 30 as in the book.

On Sunday, we played demo games of A Fistful of Kung Fu. They were extremely well received by all those who tried them. Please note that you can pre-order a signed copy of the book straight from Ganesha here, and get the figures from Northstar. The game ships in February and will be supported by free PDFs just like Of Gods and Mortals.

Othet Highlights of Ludica 2013 were an impressive Game of Thrones Lego display, a Lego wall with over 2800 minifigures. and lots of renactors. Our area was visited by Romans, Garibaldini, Vikings and so on. I grabbed a few Lego figures myself to play with my nephew.
